Children with autism can often have a difficult time with executive functioning, which includes tasks such as planning, organizing, problem-solving, and self-regulation. However, a new study has shown that taekwondo may be able to help improve these skills in children with autism. In the study, children who practiced taekwondo for four months showed significant improvements in their executive functioning skills.

The study was conducted by researchers from the Technological Educational Institute of Crete in Greece. They recruited 27 children with autism between the ages of 5 and 10 to take part in the study. Half of the group received taekwondo lessons twice a week for four months, while the other half did not participate in any form of physical activity.

At the end of the four-month period, the researchers found that those who had taken taekwondo lessons showed significant improvements in their executive functioning skills. Specifically, they had better working memory and planning abilities compared to those in the control group.

The findings suggest that taekwondo can be an effective way to help improve executive functioning skills in children with autism. It is possible that the physical movements involved in taekwondo can help to stimulate the brain, which may be why it was so effective in improving executive functioning skills.

In addition to helping with executive functioning skills, taekwondo can also have other benefits for children with autism. The physical activity of taekwondo can help to increase strength, flexibility, and coordination, while the discipline it teaches can help to improve self-control and behavior.

Overall, this study shows that taekwondo may be a great way for children with autism to gain better control over their executive functioning skills. With regular practice, taekwondo can help to improve these skills while also providing other benefits. Therefore, if you are looking for an activity that can help your child with autism, consider trying out taekwondo.
